My canola story started back when canola first was developed as a crop. Back then you had to get a contract in order to grow it, and in order to get that contract in Manitoba you had to go to a meeting. At the meeting you heard a presentation, and if you wanted to grow it you put your name in a hat. At the end of the meeting, they drew the names, and if you’re lucky, you grew it, and if you were unlucky, you went home without having canola.

This went on for several years until the demand built up, and now it’s the second largest crop in Manitoba. It really is a Cinderella crop.
